“What sets a canoeing expedition apart is that it purifies you more rapidly and inescapably than any other travel. ...paddle a hundred in a canoe and you are already a child of nature.”

UK Canoeing Days

Whether it is a journey based on your local canal, or further afield on the wonderful rivers and lakes in Cumbria we can offer fun, exciting and safe sessions in either kayaks or canoes.

These activities can be run as a full day or alternatively combined with our other activities such as climbing, gorge walking, abseiling or raft building.

Canoeing and kayaking are ideal for school groups, families, adult groups, management groups, scouts and just about every group you can think of!

Example of an activity day:

  • Arrive at Brown How Car Park, Coniston.
  • Paddle to Peel Island which is widely regarded as the inspiration for the Swallows and Amazons book series (referred to as Wild Cat Island) by Arthur Ransome.
  • Tie up the boats and spend time exploring the island, jumping off the rocks and swimming.
  • Finish with meal and a drink at a local pub.

Info:
Over two days this journey travels the full length of England’s longest lake. Windermere is situated in the heart of the Lake District, with 12 miles of open water and stunning scenery this journey passes some of the most iconic views in England.

We will meet up a Fell foot car park to start the trip, depending on the prevailing wind we will start from the South or Northern end of the lake. The canoes will be loaded with everything we will need for two days to make for a completely self sufficient journey.
Time will be spent on the first day learning the appropriate skills to enjoy the paddling, once moving we can relax into travelling along the lake stopping occasionally for breaks on the bank.

Half way along the lake there is a group of island for which we have been granted access to one of them to make our overnight stop. We will provide all camping equipment to ensure a safe comfortable night on the island. Waking up in the morning on an island is a unique experience and with a good cooked breakfast we will set off to complete the remaining half of the lake.

This trip offers a great sense of adventure and achievement for paddlers will little of no experience of canoeing and is fantastic way of seeing the lake district in a different way.
