Silver Duke of Edinburgh award Canoeing
Dates:
Closed group expedition dates available upon request.
Price:
Practice expedition - £300 inclusive
Qualifying expedition - £250 inclusive
This expedition is run on Windermere, being the longest lake in England this is the ideal area for this level of award. We have great camping opportunities around the lake as well as access to one of the islands - making this a truly unique way of completing the award. Our accredited assessors and highly qualified instructors will ensure the safety of all participants whilst discreetly supervising their journey.
On arrival at our residential base in East Lancashire all participants will take part in team building exercises to initiate good group dynamics.
The first day of the practice expedition will be spent on a local reservoir practising the necessary skills to undertake a journey of this nature. This is not included in the qualifying expedition as attendants must already have their BCU 2 star award.
Back at base time will be spent planning the journey and organising all of the necessary equipment for the three day expedition. From here we will travel to the Lake District to begin the expedition where routes may be adjusted to account for weather conditions. The group will be fully self-sufficient for the whole time they are away, carrying all of the necessary food and equipment to complete the planned journey. Our supervisors will follow the group as a safety precaution whilst on the water, and check in at camp to ensure they are fulfilling DofE rules and to check that all activities at the camp are carried out in a safe manner.
Prior to the expedition
All participants who complete payment of the deposit will be sent a joining pack with all necessary information to fully prepare for the week.

Following the expedition

Subject to availability we will meet participants at either Preston train or bus stations at lunch time on the first day. Participants must provide all food for the self-sufficient expedition, starting from lunch on Day 1.
All of the technical equipment necessary for the expedition is supplied by Hill Climb Activities and is of the highest quality to ensure a safe and enjoyable expedition for all participants.
Please note that a minimum of 5 participants are required for all Open Expeditions to run. A decision as to whether the Open Expedition can run will be made 28 days before the start of the event. In the unlikely event that we have to postpone the expedition, then we will discuss the options with all participants, and will make every effort to find suitable alternative dates or expeditions for those already registered.
