2 Star Generic Paddlesport Award

The BCU Two Star is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddlesport skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat and developing an understanding into how the paddle, boat and water interact.

3 Star Inland Kayak Award

This is a moving water award exploring specific skills and techniques for successfully
completing a led river trip. As this is a discipline specific award we will be looking to
develop personal skills to a standard where candidates can perform skills accurately and constantly on moving water.

For this award we have two-day training and one-day assessment with a consolidation
period between.

3 Star Sea Kayak Award

The three star paddler will be a competent performer in sheltered to moderate water environments and have the ability to paddle unsupervised, with similar standard paddlers on sheltered water. We run this award as a two day training course and a one day assessment with time in between for consolidating the skills learned on the training.
Successful performance at BCU Three Star level indicates that a candidate can consider themselves an intermediate paddler rather than a beginner.

White Water Safety & Rescue Training

This two day training course offers candidates an understanding of the hazards and dangers of the moving water environment, simple and effective ways of dealing with rescue situations and knowledge of the core principles behind safe rescue.
We will look at appropriate equipment and techniques for dealing with rescues on grade 2 (3) moving water. As this is a pre-requisite to the 4 Star inland leader award we will spend time focussing on safe river leadership strategies and boat based rescues.
